A new version is out; this time I've added alignment to the mix. Monsters my fight each other, and some won't attack you. I'll try to get conversation going sometime this week, then quests. You can find Version 0.3.1 here; the version page is here.

After a long delay, I've finally started working on my game again. I hadn't done anything for a long time because of an obscure bug, and I wanted to get that bug removed before I made any additions. Since I don't know anything about actual debuggers, I did nothing, until I finally cobbled together a very crude stack trace generator last night. After that, it was easy enough to track down the bug and equally easy to fix it. Version 0.3.0 is here; there are no major updates, but no major bugs left either.

Version 0.2.8 contains several bug fixes from v0.2.7. There are two more obscure bugs that I hope to get out for v0.2.9. As always, the old version is on the version page.

Long ago, only the Gods existed, each an incarnation of one of the ten elemental forces. Each God created for himself an elemental realm and denizens to populate that realm. Most of the Gods were content with this arrangement. However, Guroth, the strongest God and master of Earth, proposed that they combine their powers. First, the Gods created a world that was a combination of all the elements: Fire, Air, Water, Earth, Nature, Light, Darkness, Storm, Ice, and Death. The Gods were pleased with this new land and its inhabitants. However, Guroth pressed, they had only mixed their powers, not truly combined them. Guroth suggested that they fuse their elemental energies. This was done, but the outcome was of an evil nature.

They had created Shadow, the strongest element, one that seeked corruption and death. The consensus was that this power must be locked away, and hidden in the newly created world. A gem was forged to contain this evil, and buried deep underneath Reptoran, the new world. All was well for many thousands of years. Unfortunately, the Burvaks and Dwarves, both mining races, came across the Shadow Crystal. It was sent to the mages of Xaltrir for examination, and soon the relic was placed in a mountaintop temple.

Most of the travelers to the temple were content to merely look at this gem, but one wizard took it upon himself to study the crystal and learn its secrets. The wizard became extremely powerful in the shadow magicks, which corrupted him and turned him against the people of Reptoran. Belatedly the Gods, concerned with their own realms, became aware of this menace. They aided the king of Reptoran as he ventured to the mountain to combat the wizard. In the battle that followed, the once dormant volcano the temple was on awakened, and erupted mightily.

The king could not contend with the powers of the wizard. Finally, amid showers of fire and ash, the fallen king raised his sword to attack the Shadow Crystal. His last action was a powerful swing at the crystal, which shattered. Immediately the shadow energy, no longer contained by the gem, joined itself with the other source of shadow - the wizard. The stress of the energies flowing into him was too much, and the wizard fell into a coma.

Guroth took this opportunity to imprison the wizard deep inside the earth so as to never harm the people of Reptoran again. The shards of the crystal fell into a ring of lava around the now destroyed temple, which cooled to solid obsidian. Each God took a piece of the crystal to their own realm to prevent the reunion of the elements in the future.

Many peaceful millenia passed. The inhabitants of Reptoran had no way of knowing that the wizard was slowly attuning himself to the shadow power now within him. Finally, he awoke with a tremendous burst of shadow energy. The earth tore asunder as the shadow energies made their way to the surface. Tunnels and passages were carved underground, and strange monsters came from those tunnels.

Many heroes have tried to stop this threat but all have failed. Now you must face this evil and destroy it, before all of Reptoran is lost...

Adventures in Reptoran

Your king has just defeated a terrible wizard, at the cost of his own life. The wizard is imprisoned deep underground, and Reptoran is safe for the time being; however, there are many tasks that need to be done. Since the prince is still a child, a temporary king has been crowned to rule over Reptoran and its people. Some support this ruler, but many more do not. The land is divided, but order must be kept until the true king takes the throne. Additionally, much of the land needs to be explored, and new races of people must be brought into the kingdom. Who knows what lies undiscovered in Reptoran? Only time will tell...

Adventures in Reptoran II: The Return of Shadow

The ground erupts with shadow energy once more. but it does not stop. The wizard once commanded incredible amounts of energy, and his destruction releases it. The very essence of reality has ruptured as rifts appear in the Eastern Mountains to other worlds. At the source, the shadow eats away at the earth, clawing its way upward. People flee from the growing chasm, but still the shadow energy chases them. The land is slowly being corrupted.

The sages of Xaltrir desprately searched for a way to dispel the shadow energies. Finally, they hit upon a potential clue. Ancient texts speak of elemental rocks, shards of the ancient shadow crystal. The text is faded and incomplete, but the sages manage to find a crucial section that is mostly readable. "Should this great gem be sundered, malignant radiation will no doubt be released. Energy this powerful needs to be contained, but it requires a special vessel. This gem is unlike any I have ever seen...it's almost alive. Very few things would have the properties to contain this energy: no normal minerals, no plants, no structures. However...it may be possible for a sentient being to store such energy. I cannot imagine the turmoil in that person's mind, or the continuous torture such energies would no doubt inflict on him. It is a fate I should not wish on any man. In fact, were the crystal to be destroyed, the only way to contain such energies would be to reforge the crystal...at the very least, bringing the pieces together will drive the shadow from the land."

The sages, remembering the ancient shards, grasped this one chance to save Reptoran from plunging into eternal shadow. Intent of absorbing the elements it was originally composed of, the shadow had torn rifts through reality to the elemental worlds. The crystal shards had been made accessible; all that remained was for someone to retrieve them.

You are that person. You must face the daunting task of recovering the elemental stones, and returning them to the Shadow Temple.

Adventures in Reptoran III: The World of Reptoran

Shadow has been expelled permanently from Reptoran, and the continent has entered a period of peace and prosperity. Recently, travellers from across the sea have contacted the people of Reptoran. Apparently there are completely new and totally different cultures in the four other continents. It's a big world out there, and you're determined to find your place in it.

Welcome to the island of Endorech, where anything can and will happen. Magic is everywhere, and all creatures and items contain it. On some parts of the island, killing a creature will give limited access to its magical energies; on others, items might affect one's intelligence, strength, capabilities, and anything else that once determined what they were. Strange machines can be found and controlled, and there is even a great cave where shapes and perceptions are constantly shifting. Endorech is a chaotic place, and one filled with opportunities for adventure.
